Deborah Unger, Artist

Deborah Unger is an Oregon artist who creates  small-scale, figurative wood sculpture. All figures and animals  are carved basswood and are sometimes painted. The figures are clothed in fabric. She makes patterns for, and sews, the clothing. Deborah's subject matter deals primarily with the interior. Internal conflicts and emotions, either personal or inter-relational. Her sculpture is metaphoric and can seem dreamlike. Common imagery which she uses for her sculptures are houses, fire, heights, animals, and couples, but also trees and roots which are inspired by the landscape of Oregon where she lives.
